Delicate and detailed, Piero
Ricca's Venetian Historical Tarot
is a romantic depiction of Venice's
history and customs. According to Stuart
Kaplan in his Encyclopedia of
Tarot, vol. III (p. 528), Ricca's
cards "...reflect a history of Venice that
is, by the artist's admission, fanciful
and ironic. The events and scenes depited
on the cards were chosen from the past 'to
safeguard this work from the premature
aging that occurs with whatever can be
accurately chronicled.'"
From Venice's glory days as a major
center of commerce and trade, to its
eventual fall to Napoleon's troops, Ricca
captures the epic story of one of Italy's
most fascinating cities, framing the tale
in 22 colorful and symbolic tarot cards.
This limited edition deck from 1980 is a
Tarot Garden "top pick" for collectors!
