Polish artist and poet Krzystof
Glass (1944 - 2000) contributed two
notable works to the world of collectible
tarot. The first "Glass Tarot" was issued
in a limited edition of 70 copies, and was
featured in Stuart Kaplan's
Encyclopedia of Tarot, vol. I (p.
194.) The "Glass 2 Tarot," shown here, was
included in Kaplan's Encyclopedia of
Tarot, vol. III (p. 246).
The second Glass deck, featuring
completely different designs from Glass'
first tarot, was published in 1977 in a
limited edition of 99 signed and numbered
sets. Each deck was hand-pulled, with the
colors added in separate steps. The cards
are housed in a lovely, cloth-covered
sectional box with gold-embossed title.
The figures on many of the cards are
represented with dual or split profiles --
an effect which, according to Kaplan,
"gives a mood of mystery and ambiguity to
the deck." The bold, alluring, and unique
characters depicted invite further
exploration, drawing the viewer into a
fascinating world of shape and color.
