Estensi Tarot - Golden Tarot of the Renaissance

Designer(s), Artist(s): Giordano Berti, Jo Dworkin
Country of Publication: Italy
Number of Cards: 78
Publication Year: 2004
Publication Status: In Print

Description:
The major arcana of this 78-card Lo Scarabeo deck are drawn from the illustrations of the so-called Charles VI Tarot. Artist Giodano Berti has interpreted and replaced the six cards missing from the original. The deck is then expanded to a full 78 cards, with Berti imagining what the minor arcana of such a deck might have looked like. The multi-lingual titles -- so prominent on many Lo Scarabeo decks -- are placed relatively unobtrusivley running up along the left-hand card borders.

Golden Tarot of Klimt

Designer(s), Artist(s): Alexandrov Atanassov
Country of Publication: Italy
Number of Cards: 78
Publication Year: 2005
Publication Status: In Print

Description:
Images rendered in the style of Austrian symbolist painter Gustov Klimt comprise the illustrations of this fully-illustrated 78-card deck with gold foil accents. The almost impossibly gaunt figures found on some cards may disturb some viewers; others may find the veiled and not-so-veiled eroticism of Klimt's work to be off-putting. But for those that find appeal in Klimt's work, this elegant and well-executed tribute deck should not disappoint.

Le Tarot d'Or

Designer(s), Artist(s): Joelle Balle
Country of Publication: France
Number of Cards: 22
Publication Year: 1998
Publication Status: Out-of-Print

Description:
Set of 22 tarot images designed for use with young children and adolescents. The imagery and titles have been altered on some of the cards to express the underlying concepts from a child's point-of-view. The cards were included with designer Balle's explanatory book as 11 sheets with two cutout cards apiece. A Japanese version of Balle's book and cards was also published, with the cards in a punch-out format. A modified, updated edition of the Tarot d'Or, designed to address a broader audience, was published in card form in 2003.

Spirit Tarot

Designer(s), Artist(s): Kris Dorea, Joanna Iwanska, Sabine Thiel, Helmut Weyrer
Country of Publication: Switzerland
Number of Cards: 78
Publication Year: 2007
Publication Status: In Print

Description:
Illustrations by Polish artist Joanna Iwanska and German artist Sabine Theil, and photos from the portfolio of Austrian photographer Helmut Weyrer are combined and collaged by Kris Dorea. The thrust is the surreal and spiritual; the results, as one might expect from a deck whose elements are pulled from such diverse sources, are effectively mixed. We'd rather do without the huge bottom border and large title fonts -- but this one should be relatively easy to perform a borderectomy on.
