Designer(s), Artist(s): Caroline Smith, John Astrop
Country of Publication: U.S.A.
Number of Cards: 78
Publication Year: 1988
Publication Status: In Print
Reference: Encyclopedia of Tarot, vol. III, pp. 193, 194; Manteia, Issue #1, p. 16
Description: Simple, yet pleasing, hieroglyphic-like illustrations characterize this tarot with a definite 'new age' feel. Some of the major arcana cards have been renamed, but all stick close to the traditional designations. Each card is associated with earth, air, fire, or water -- hence the name 'Elemental Tarot.' The major arcana feature stanzas from a Gnostic poem selected specifically to fit the meaning of the card. The pip cards are fully illustrated. Originally published in 1988 as a boxed set with small hardcover book, the deck was reissued in 1999 in a paperback edition with the cards shrinkwrapped to the book.
