Shadowscapes Tarot

Designer(s), Artist(s): Stephanie Pui-Mun Law, Barbara Moore
Country of Publication: U.S.A.
Number of Cards: 78
Publication Year: 2010
Publication Status: In Print

Description:
Fantasy artist Stephanie Pui-Mun Law spent six years creating the 78 images of the Shadowscapes Tarot. Wizards, fairies, unicons, and other characters whimsical and fantastic populate the delicate, breezy, colorful scenes. While we at the Tarot Garden always tend to prefer un-bordered cards in our decks, the gentle silver borders surrounding the scenes are tasteful enough, and manage to avoid overpowering the central tableaus. Barbara Moore, who has authored several companion manuals for popular decks (including the Gilded Tarot and Mystic Faerie Tarot), manages once again to make her text extremely accessible for the tarot novice. 78 cards in standard cardboard box and full-length softcover manual in standard cardboard box.

Shining Angels Tarot

Designer(s), Artist(s): Giuditta Dembech, Federico Penco
Country of Publication: Italy
Number of Cards: 78
Publication Year: 2009
Publication Status: In Print

Description:
We're not exactly sure why Lo Scarabeo thinks the world needs yet ANOTHER angels deck. After all, they already gave us the Tarot of the Angels in 2008, in a market already saturated with angel-themed decks. Best guess: this deck was developed as a contrast companion deck to their forthcoming (as of this writing) Dark Angels Tarot. If that's the case, we'd like to wait and see what the latter has to offer once it becomes available. Evaluated as a stand-alone deck, this tarot seems to be little more than RWS-esque images with giant, benevolent-looking angels superimposed into the scenes. But the artwork is of the usual Lo Scarbeo comic-book-pretty variety, so it remains easy on the eye.

Tarot of the Sidhe

Designer(s), Artist(s): Emily Carding
Country of Publication: U.S.A.
Number of Cards: 78
Publication Year: 2011
Publication Status: In Print

Description:
Open the gates to the Celtic Otherworld with this inspiring new Tarot-a vivid and powerful, 78-card deck painted through direct inspiration from the Sidhe, (pronounced Shee), the ancient Gaelic name for the Faery race. The Sidhe take us beyond popular images of flower fairies, to a deeply magickal and spiritual set of images that take Tarot reading to a deeper level and may be used for meditation, magick, and more. Connecting with the Sidhe at this time may help you reconnect with inner powers of the primal Earth and bring healing to the land around you. The cards use original, non-derivatory symbolism and potent imagery within traditional Tarot structure. This Faery deck is born from shamanic techniques and can help you build a stronger connection with their realm. If you wish to strengthen your intuition and perception of the Otherworld, then this is the deck for you. Descriptions, meanings, and keywords are explored. There are also channeled oracle messages received from the beings on the cards.

Silenus Tarot

Designer(s), Artist(s): Mike Indovina
Country of Publication: U.S.A.
Number of Cards: 78
Publication Year: 2007
Publication Status: In Print

Description:
Named for a "learned satyr" of Greek mythology, the Silenus Tarot matches ancient Greek tales to the Rider-Waite interpretations of the 78 cards. This isn't the first deck to express tarot's symbolism through a Greek lens (for the most popular example, see Sharman-Burke and Newell's Mythic Tarot). And the cartoonish nature of the illustrations may be off-putting to some -- though in all fairness, creator Mike Indovina is a cartoon and graphic novel illustrator by trade. But Greek parable always makes for a fun romp, and provides plenty of symbolic fodder for tarot studies. The playing-card-sized cards are perfect for those who prefer a deck that fits more easily in the hand.
