Nefertari's Tarots

Designer(s), Artist(s): Silvana Alasia
Country of Publication: Italy
Number of Cards: 78
Publication Year: 1999
Publication Status: In Print

Description:
Beautiful 78-card deck utilizing hieroglyphic-like Egyptian characters to express divinatory meanings. The card backgrounds, and many of the individual details, are gold-foil stamped, giving the deck the flavor of the richness of the pharaohs of ancient Egypt. The pip cards are fully illustrated. Due to the limitations of digital scanning, the lustre of the foil-stamping is largely subdued in the samples provided. NOTE: a non-foil-stamped version of the Nefertari deck was published in 1998, under the name The Tarots of the Sphynx.

Initiatory Tarot of the Golden Dawn (deluxe edition)

Designer(s), Artist(s): Giordano Berti, Patrizio Evangelisti
Country of Publication: Italy
Number of Cards: 78
Publication Year: 2008
Publication Status: Out-of-Print

Description:
Though artistic liberties definitely abound in this latest Golden Dawn Tarot-wannabe, the general ideas of the influential 19th century mystical order are pretty well encompassed by the images in the majors, aces, and court cards of this deck. Gone, however, are the "semi-non-scenic" pips, whose subtleties and nuances made for some interesting deep reflection. Instead, the 2 - 10 pip cards bear the fully-scenic images that are the hallmark of Lo Scarabeo decks. The departure will possibly be a help to some, a hinderance to others. Sometimes referred to as the New Tarot of the Golden Dawn. This entry represents the standard (deck-only) edition of this title.

Tarot of the New Vision

Designer(s), Artist(s): Pietro Alligo, R. Cestaro, G. Cestaro
Country of Publication: Italy
Number of Cards: 78
Publication Year: 2003
Publication Status: In Print

Description:
Take the standard Waite-Smith images, rotate the perspective 180 degrees, and you have the Tarot of the New Vision: a deck that reveals "what was once hidden". A potentially controversial deck, since everyone has their own opinion as to what Waite and Smith might have added to a given card's symbolism. But certainly interesting food for thought, whether you agree or disagree with this particular execution of the concept.

Night Sun Tarot

Designer(s), Artist(s): Fabio Listrani
Country of Publication: Italy
Number of Cards: 78
Publication Year: 2014
Publication Status: In Print

Description:
Jungian shadowside work comprises the major thrust of this dark yet spiritual deck. Although providing a reminder that the darkness is part of us, this deck is neither grim nor defeatist. It simply gives us a method to explore where the light shines dimly at best. The images are a mixture of tribal, steampunk, and fantasy elements that succeed in sparking the imagination and making the journey to our darker side a wondrous experience.

Tarot of the Nymphs

Designer(s), Artist(s): Mauro de Luca
Country of Publication: Italy
Number of Cards: 78
Publication Year: 2014
Publication Status: In Print

Description:
In the LWB introduction for this deck, author Anna Lamberti Bocconi writes: "The myth of the Nymphs demonstrates that only through love can a creature truly come to life, and that without love, there is no soul. It is a special love, more spiritual than carnal, and yet completely immersed in nature and the elements." And while that may be true, this deck exhibits an overwhelmingly carnal feel, with many cards exhibiting half- and completely-naked, well-endowed women (with wings) in pin-up style poses. We've attempted to choose cards in our sample scans that show a variety of tableaus from this deck, but the reality is that this deck is heavily weighted toward young, nubile women sexing it up for the camera (metaphorically speaking). Not that we object to that; the illustrations are indeed lovely to look at. But if you're looking for spiritual depth, this may not be the best deck choice for you.

Designer(s), Artist(s): Sergio Toppi
Country of Publication: Italy
Number of Cards: 22
Publication Year: 1989
Publication Status: Out-of-Print

Description:
Artist Sergio Toppi examines the majors from a primal human point of view. Later expanded to 78 cards, and published in English (and other languages) as Tarot of the Origins. Toppiā€™s view appears stark, but is respectful and reminds us of our ancestral roots. This listing displays the large-and-lovely Lo Scarabeo d'Arte edition.
