An interesting feature of the court cards is that for each suit, when placed side-by-side, the four images combine to create an extended tableau. Traditional titling is used, except for the suit of Coins / Pentacles, which here is called "Plates." The minors feature scenic (i.e., fully illustrated) pips. 78 cards in standard cardboard box

Tarot of the Secret Forest

Designer(s), Artist(s): Lucia Mattioli, Pietro Alligo, Riccardo Minetti
Country of Publication: Italy
Number of Cards: 78
Publication Year: 2005
Publication Status: In Print

Description:
Dusky, golden tones dominate the subdued hues of the colored side of this unusual deck. On the backs of the cards, instead of a standardized design or pattern, the same images are presented in black-and-white. Having the images on both sides of the cards may limit the deck's usage in readings for some folks, but could suggest expanded possibilities for others. Also, for a fantasy deck dominated by fairies and cute forest denizens, the darker color scheme may seem a bit paradoxical. But hey... did we really need yet another bright-and-fluffy deck of adorable sprites riding big-eyed bunnies through the daisies?

The Secret Language of Birds Tarot

Designer(s), Artist(s): Adele Nozedar, Linda Sutton
Country of Publication: U.S.A.
Number of Cards: 78
Publication Year: 2011
Publication Status: In Print

Description:
As author Adele Nozedar points out, ornithomancy -- the practice of assigning predictive significancy to the patterns and behavior of birds -- has a long history. But until now, there hasn't been a tarot that wedded this tradition with tarot. In The Secret Language of Birds Tarot, Nozedar and illustator Linda Sutton attempt to align avian symbology with common tarot interpretations. The results are entirely satisfactory, providing a solid archetypal groundwork for the tarot newcomer and sufficient resonance for the seasoned practitioner.

Number of Cards: 78
Publication Year: 1998, with subsequent reprintings
Publication Status: In Print

Description:
Dramatic and sort of goth-y, the Secret Tarot has stood the test of time to remain popular many years after its initial publication. The publisher's blurb on this one probably says it best: "As infinite as time, as deep as the sea, and as mysterious as fate, each Arcana possesses a living soul and a voice which whispers forgotten things to the hearts of all men and women."
